One thing I find myself talking about often with patients is this:
Our bodies are constantly communicating with us — but many of us were taught to ignore the signals.
We normalize things like:
- leaking when we laugh or exercise
- painful sex
- constipation
- pelvic pressure
- always feeling tense
- peeing "just in case"
- low back or hip tension that never fully goes away
And over time, we start thinking:
"This is probably just normal."
But "common" and "normal" are not always the same thing.
As both a pelvic floor occupational therapist and someone who's personally experienced pelvic floor dysfunction, I care deeply about helping people reconnect with their bodies without shame or fear.
Lately, I've also been reflecting on how much stress and overstimulation affect us physically.
I've personally been trying to be more intentional about my own routines — avoiding social media first thing in the morning, delaying texts for the first hour after waking, prioritizing movement, and creating more moments of quiet throughout the day.
Not because perfection is the goal, but because our nervous systems matter more than we often realize.
And in pelvic health especially, lifestyle, stress, habits, and nervous system regulation can play a huge role in symptoms.
Sometimes the smallest shifts create the biggest awareness.
This month, I encourage you to pause and ask yourself:
What has my body been trying to tell me lately?
And if symptoms you've been experiencing are affecting your quality of life, you don't have to simply "live with it."
As always, I'm here if you have questions, want support, or know someone who may benefit from pelvic health therapy.
